The Friends of the Bourne Rail Trail is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to bringing a multi-use pedestrian and bike path to the Town of Bourne. Once complete, the trail will connect the towns of Sandwich, Bourne, and Falmouth and create 24 miles of uninterrupted path on the Upper Cape.
The vision for the Trail has received tremendous public support and significant progress has been made in the past year to turn the vision into reality. In fall of 2018, Bourne residents voted to allocate $50,000 in funding to support a portion of the design and engineering cost of the first phase of the Trail.
In summer of 2019, $300,000 in funding was secured for the design of phases one and two of the Trail. The Rails-to-Trails Conservancy awarded $15,000 to the Trail through the Doppelt Family Trail Development Fund and $285,000 was awarded through the State of Massachusetts’ MassTrails Grant Program. We are thrilled that the importance of the Trail has been recognized at both the state and national level.
